Addiction

I'm wondering how many (legal) things you can claim to be addicted to before you realize maybe you actually just possess no self control.

Besides being addicted to shoes, clothes, cheese, popsicles (I almost took one in the car with me on my way to work this morning), sparkly things, cooking utensils, post it notes in fun shapes, and hot cocoa, I'm also addicted to buying cookbooks. And in the immortal words of one, Miss Britney Spears, oops, I did it again.

To be fair it's an awesome cookbook. About baking savory things. Which might actually make me want to bake. In fact it did already because Lana and I used one of the recipes (with some modifications) to make parmesan topped rosemary muffins.

The book is called Savory Baking by Mary Cech. Go make something delicious from it and tell me about it. Or better yet feed it to me.

It's So Amazing!

So, a few weeks ago I went to look at a couple cookbooks I keep on my kitchen counter. When I picked them up all the pages were stuck together. I'm not really sure how this happened since if anything spilled I would have wiped it up but, regardless, the books were no longer functional. I really really love these super simple books so I wanted to replace them.

This was no problem, I found both the books I wanted through the website of a local bookstore as well as a book on curries. So I ordered the books for in store pickup and paid for them online.

Then I got these suggestions for other books I may enjoy as well.



All of a sudden I'm a bit wary of these cookbooks...

Arts and Papercrafts

I feel like a lot of modern art is created as a statement. There's always some sort of message behind a work and while that's interesting and an excellent way to create a dialog about issues sometimes having something created purely for it's aesthetic value is refreshing and lovely.

This book is full of art created from paper. Some things are small, some things are life size, some are purely for amusement and others serve a purpose but all of the things in this book make you want to look at them. They are beautiful pieces. There are rooms with stairs made of crisp white sheets of paper, these are monsters full of color and texture, there are painstakingly detailed gardens cut out by hand, geodes made of atlas pages...the list goes on.

Even if you don't intend to actually create your own paper art this book is so inspirational. I look through the pages and absorb the details and use them to paint better or simply become more aware of what I put into my art.

And yes, all those tiny foods on the cover are made of paper.
