Saturday night Tiger decided he needed to lay exactly where Javier was any time Javi decided to lay down. And he wouldn't just lay near him or touching him...he would lay on top of him. This whole thing went on for way longer than it should have given Javi has about five pounds on Tiger and the advantage of claws but apparently he also possesses the patience of a saint.
We felt the imprisonment of being a girl and how it made your mind active and dreamy...

Apparently This is a Thing Now
A BBQ Picnic!
As I mentioned before Friday was gorgeous here in Portland. So gorgeous in fact that it allowed Craig and I to have a BBQ/picnic at a park near our apartments. On the menu were hot dogs, southwestern seasoned corn on the cob, buttermilk potato salad, watermelon, pickles, and chocolate chip cookies. We used a portable grill I bought recently and I'm in love with. I don't know if it was the sun or the park or puppykins or what but I feel like our little outdoor meal made me so incredibly happy. I want to spend the whole summer in the park having mini BBQs and being outside with my dog.

Afterward Craig and I went over to my place to watch a movie. Tiger hung out in my lap and Javier slept in what is supposed to be the dog bed. Until Craig left and I walked him to the door. Then Tiger decided he needed to sleep in the bed too.

At least one of them seems content with that arrangement.

Best Guy Ever
I'll be honest, the puppy is a lot more fun than the cat. He wants to play and he gets excited to see me and follows me around and has adorable expressions and is so playful then just crashes in my lap. I can take him places and he likes treats and can be accessorized...he's just fun. Cat Face is more of a strong silent type. But Javier is also my first very own pet and so special to me. And I feel so proud of him for being such a good sport in regards to our new addition. Yesterday was Tiger's first day at daycare and it wiped him out. In the evening he was asleep in my lap and Javi was laying next to me sleeping as well and we got to spend a little time together uninterrupted by Crazy Face. Then at bedtime the pets snuggled up together.

Splish Splash
I can't even tell you how happy I am that Javier and Tiger get along. They are so sweet to watch and I honestly don't know what I would have done if they hadn't gotten along. I didn't really have a game plan for that.
Last night while I was watching 16 and Pregnant this happened...
I don't know why but for some reason this video shows my video twice. So halfway through you'll have seen the whole thing. Also it's super adorable to me but you'll probably get the point about 30 seconds or less into it.

BFFs 4eva!
So, apparently the universe is totally shining down on me because new puppy and Javier are in love with each other. Bro love but still. They are excited to see each other when Tiger comes home from being out with me, Javier gets concerned when Tiger has to be baby gated in the bathroom when I leave, they sleep together, Javi cleans Tiger's ears...and they even wrestle. Which sort of looks like they're fighting but no one is yelping or hissing or meowing or howling or even trying to get away from the other. And no one has suffered any injuries so I'm pretty sure it's a totally playful thing. The best part of which is, they totally wear each other out. Check out the cuteness...and ignore the fact that my bed now belongs to the pets.

Apparently Tiger doesn't mind Javi sleeping on top of him either...

Operation Puppy Adoption: Complete
This weekend was a whirlwind. I usually feel almost bored by the end of a three day weekend but this one ran me a bit ragged. Last week I was feeling super tired but I figured it was just the completely hideous weather we've been having. No such luck. I think I am the least in tune with my body person ever because this happens every month and I never catch on that it's coming...I got my period.
For most women that's not a huge deal but for me it's like the black plague. It also probably contributed to not-so-relaxing thing number two which was a gigantic bawling breakdown over Kevin. I've been holding up fairly well ever since a couple days after his funeral but I just could not. stop. crying.
And then, because I am so together and not at all completely crazy I had a super painful headache and tons of tension on Sunday night (meaning no sleep) over the new puppy coming home and if Javier would hate me and if the puppy would eat all my shoes and I would have no footwear and he might choke and I would have to take him to the vet and the bill would be $8,000 and I'd end up poor and homeless. And Javi would still hate me.
Because these are the things that go through my head.
Then Monday came and even though it took me forever to get out of bed and I woke up still having a headache, after a shower I felt a lot better. I picked up Craig and we made our way to Eugene to pick up the new pup. Eugene was a new experience for me and I liked it a lot.
First we went to lunch but we went to McMenamins which are all over Oregon so that wasn't super exciting but then we looked for this rock that commemorates Steve Prefontaine who was a super good runner or something from Oregon. Apparently he is way famous and I am unbelievable for not knowing all about him. I mostly wanted to see the rock because Craig said there was a pair of his shoes there and I was intrigued how a pair of running shoes could hang out in the Oregon weather for years and years and not just be a moldy blob. This is the rock. Notice, there are no shoes. Because Craig is a liar.

But even awesomer than the rock was this YARD FULL OF TURKEYS!

This was seriously my favorite part of the trip. Someone just has a whole yard full of turkeys hanging out...
Next we went to this treats shop that is ah-mazing. It's called Sweet Life Patisserie and I wanted to eat everything. But I only ate one thing and it was called Brownie Mosaic Cheesecake. I couldn't eat much of it because it was super rich but it was delicious.

After that it was time to take pictures of weird things, one of my favorite pastimes.
I think I want my money back...

If you look closely the gentleman on the right there definitely has his penis hanging out. Which may make for an awkward haircut.

We also visited Craig's sister who is super adorable and nice and his niece who is the cutest ever. She also had new shoes that squeak with every footstep she takes. Surprisingly this is not at all annoying.

Then it was time for the main event...puppy!
Tova and her very patient husband David brought Tiger up from California for me. Tova held him the whole ride home and it makes me happy he felt so loved. Craig and I went to pick him up and left pretty quickly to give the puppy transporters some space after their long journey. Then we started our trip home!

When we got home I introduced Javi and Tiger. Javi didn't even notice him at first. I was holding Tiger when I walked in the door and Javier was way more concerned with me giving him attention than that there could be a living being in my arms. Once he did figure it out he was surprisingly calm. The pup was a little more intent on chasing/playing with/annoying Javi. That's me making him not attack my cat.

Eventually they both chilled out and drank water side by side.

I had planned to crate train Tiger but he definitely hates being in there and I don't want to piss off all my neighbors so I let him sleep with me. He was pretty much the best ever and so snuggly. I knoooow I was supposed to just ignore him and let him self soothe and go to sleep happily but it wasn't happening and I honestly really enjoy him snuggled up with me. So I guess maybe I just ruined my dog but for now he's not sleeping in his crate.

Uh Oh...

I went puppy supply shopping this weekend and found this toy. At that point I was still considering the name 'Cupcake' for the new little guy and thought this would be super perfect if that ended up being his name but pretty dang cute regardless. Tangent...do you know how much merchandise for dogs is littered with images of cupcakes? It's like, a whole thing. There are toys and collars and clothes and bandannas...Cupcakes are cute so I could see some things with that image emblazoned on them but the pet store has an entire section devoted solely to things with mini cake on them. It's weird. Anyways, I also bought this thing because it was $1.17 and I don't really know how you can beat that.
Unfortunately, this has happened.

He made a noise when I touched it. He's already stealing toys from the sibling he doesn't even know he has.

Back, Back Again
Oh my goodness it's been a long time.
I've done a ton while taking my break from the internet. I painted pottery, went to the gorge, dyed Easter eggs, made new art, threw a party, got some awesome new kitchen stuff, wore pajamas out and about, watched too much Dexter, and took pictures of my cat. Obviously it's all too much to talk about at once so I'm going to go ahead and give you non-chronological bits and pieces.
I went to the gorge last weekend with Tova and some others for a picnic. I don't really know the real name of the place we went. Everyone just calls it the gorge and it was my first time there which everyone thought was super crazy. I had to hunt down Craig at his favorite coffee shop and kidnap him to come with because he wasn't answering his phone. He was all grumpy about it at first and insisted on doing his homework in the car but I am persuasive so he came with.

We stopped at this view point that was named Women's Forum which totally sounds like Lilith Fair in conference form to me but whatever. This family seriously took a photo at every single section of fence here. The mom kept taking pictures of two of the girls and telling them to "do a little kick" while demonstrating. Possibly my favorite part of the day.

This is the gorge.

Javi and I slept in yesterday. He's pretty much the best ever at snuggly weekend mornings. He's not a super snuggly guy but it's like he gets that on the weekends we're supposed to stay in bed late and be cozy.

This weekend we had a whole two days full of gorgeous sun. Of course today it's gone but I'm starting to really look forward to Spring. I love how in Portland just when you think you're about to go bonkers over the grey skies the weather comes through and gives you some much needed vitamin D.
To all those who won prizes from my giveaway, I mailed out your packages this weekend. I apologize for the late start but you should have your things soon!

A Collection of Things
So, I have about a jillion (real number, maybe 5?) things to write about. This means another completely incohesive post. Although they all have to do with this weekend so I guess they at least have some kind of minor thread in common.
First of all, I planted an herb garden this weekend. I thought it was going to be hard and maybe I shouldn't reveal this so it seems more impressive but basically it involved taking the plants out of their plastic containers and putting them in terra cotta pots. Craig and I went to the nursery which I thought was going to be kind of boring but was actually pretty cool. Craig got a garden plot so we looked at veggies for him to grow. He offered to let me come help him with it and I told him I would but only if I could pick two of the things to grow, I don't have to weed, and also it's not a real promise I'll actually help. He agreed which reassured me I am the master of bargaining.
We went to the Portland Nursery. They have a gigantic amount of plants.

Craig wouldn't let me use the Radio Flyer wagon or one of the purple carts for our plants. Well, he would but I didn't want to have to pull it so I said it was okay for us to use the green one. Which I ended up pulling anyways.

Here is Craig holding all our baby herbs.

Later that day we went to dinner and saw Hanna which was awesome. I thought it was pretty violent for a PG13 film but I'm probably just an old lady now that I'm coming up on 26. I'll be talking about how coffee used to be only $3.50 when I was growing up in no time.
Also this movie is funny which it doesn't lead you to believe at all by the trailers. And I very much admire their ability to make it humorous without detracting from the parts that are serious business. That's a tough thing to pull off.

I have a secret I've been keeping just in case it didn't work out. Because I didn't really want to announce to the internet that this really awesome thing could happen if I were good enough for it to happen and then have it not happen and have to be like 'Sorry Internet, I'm actually sort of lame."
I applied for a job with Sur la Table's culinary program. Aaaaaand...I got it! I'll be a kitchen assistant so I'll do prep for cooking classes as well as assist with them. I sort of fell into applying but I'm so excited for the opportunity to be using some culinary skills professionally as well as be in a position to learn so much. It's part time so I'll still keep my current job as well.
In celebration I want to do a giveaway. This is not at all sponsored but I thought it would be appropriate to give someone out there a few of my favorite kitchen things from Sur la Table. I've never done this before so be patient, also feel free to offer advice if you've done a giveaway or participated in one before and think something could be done better. It will be a trial run learning experience.
Here's what I'm giving away...
First up we've got an ice cream cone shaped cookie cutter!

Next is a sparkly pink Le Creuset spatula. This spatula is a legit nice spatula that works well (none of that tough non-bendy rubber) but I'd be lying if I didn't admit I mostly like it because it is pink and full of glitter.

Cupcake cookie cutter! Super adorable to decorate. The cookies, not the cutter.

And last but not least, a ceramic paring knife by Kuhn Rikon. I'm newly in love with ceramic knives and I use this one for everything. You will be getting this awesome color that was not available when I purchased mine.

So now for the how-to. I want to make this fun rather than just use a random number generator to pick a winner so full disclosure, this is going to be totally subjective since I'm the one picking the winner. Leave me a comment telling me what you would use these tools to make and the answer I find most fantastic will win all four items. Remember, if you win you'll have to give me your address in order to mail them to you so if you think there's a chance I could be a murderer and you aren't going to want to give me a place to send these things you should probably not play. The last day to submit a comment will be Friday April 15th, 2011 and the winner will be announced Monday April 18th, 2011.
Oh, and my cat is still adorable. Just in case you were wondering.
