What Tiger's Wearing Today

So, This Happened
Saturday night Tiger decided he needed to lay exactly where Javier was any time Javi decided to lay down. And he wouldn't just lay near him or touching him...he would lay on top of him. This whole thing went on for way longer than it should have given Javi has about five pounds on Tiger and the advantage of claws but apparently he also possesses the patience of a saint.

Unfortuantely Will Smith Was Not in Attendance
Yesterday was the 4th of July and while we kept it mellow here we definitely had fun. We had a little BBQ in the park, came back to my place for dessert, then watched a movie. No fireworks because I wasn't sure how Tiger would react but he did great. Our BBQ menu was salmon marinated in brown sugar, teriyaki, ginger, and beer, a potato salad with wilted spinach and a thyme buttermilk dressing, rosemary grilled veggies, corn on the cob with feta pepper butter, watermelon, and frozen caramel smores. Obviously it was amazing. I'm friends with Sur la Table the company, not just the Portland store, on Facebook and when they asked what everybody was making for the 4th my menu got "liked" by not only other posters but by Sur la Table themselves which I'm fairly proud of.
This was the beginning of the smores creation. Basically just chocolate ice cream, marshmallow fluff, and caramel swirled together.

These were an absolute delicious mess.

His tail never stops moving.

Berryblosson tea with clover honey steeped in the sun.

My salmon experiment. Apparently it was the best salmon anyone has every had.

Rosemary marinated veggies. So delicious.

The pets were weirdly fascinated by the corn. Javi never gets in trouble and I had to tell him 800 times to go play.

This potato salad was a hit. I just roasted the spuds then cut them in half when they came out and mixed them with the dressing and spinach while still warm. I also ended up adding some mustard which was the key.

Most majestic puppy ever...

I made Tiger a daisy chain. Which he then ate. Because he's an ungrateful child.

Tiger and his stepfather.*

Trista and Zach. The couple where after you hang out with them everyone says "I really like them..."

This is one of my favorite photos of my little munchkin.

He was so exhausted by the end of the day. I don't know if it was that or because he is awesome that he had zero reaction to the fireworks. Also you will notice we are the same color.

*Craig is my pets' godfather. I've made him promise to take care of them in case I die. Before Tiger arrived I went over this with him again and told him he was going to be Tiger's stepfather. Then I corrected myself to say grandfather. It wasn't until 5 minutes later I realized neither of those were what I meant. Calling someone a godfather sounds weird though. And like you're in the mob. So stepfather has stuck.

Baby Photos!
I've been trying to not make this blog all about Tiger since you know, it's the internet and if all you wanted were pictures of puppies you could find that fairly easily. Almost as easily as if all you wanted were photos of penises. But, this is also my party and I've never put too specific a theme on it because I wanted to be able to post whatever I want. Sometimes that's all about cooking or sometimes it's days of fashion or crafts or apartment decor. Other times it's a whole lot of photos of my pets.
This past weekend Tiger and I went over to Kevin's parents house for a visit. Tiger is learning clicker training and Bunnie, Kevin's mom, was in love with helping train him. Tiger was in love with all the treats. Don't worry though, he eats super healthy treats so what he thinks is something special is basically a dinner substitute.

Tiger is a tiny guy and I (or rather his vet) think the moving around and his vaccines lowered his immune system a bit. Apparently all dogs have natural mites that are always in their fur, the "good" kind. But if they have a lowered immune system those mites can become too many and the pup can get itchy which results is patchy fur. Which is what happened to Mister Jungle Cat himself. For the foreseeable future Tiger has to have three baths a week with this special shampoo and also take these giant vitamin E capsules every day. Luckily he loves the vitamins and bears with me on the bath thing. I decided to let him shower with me this most recent time since that seemed the easiest way to do things.

I love daycare and how much it wears him out. He gets so excited to see me and has a fit of affection when I pick him up that continues into the first few minutes in the car then he crashes. I have two of those beds, one for him and Javi to jam into in the house and one for car rides. Tiger always rides shotgun.

It's impossible to be sad around this guy.

I gave up on my no rawhide rule after the vet said it's actually okay as long as I watch him. I took extra precaution by getting the most difficult to tear apart ever form of this stuff.

Tiger and I had dinner with Tova and her husband last week. It's fair to say he wasn't lacking any attention. The dog that is...

This was at Kevin's parents' house too. Their giant backyard made me feel bad I don't have one for him. I'm thinking once my lease is up I maaaay try to find a house. In the city still because I love that. I pictured myself here for a long time because I love my home but I love Tiger more.

You may think he's going for the treats here but he would also like to eat the clicker. And everything else in the entire world. I really think he doesn't have taste buds because I don't have any other reasoning for his inclination to put every single thing in his mouth.

Tiny baby running dog with so much energy.

Apparently I never get tired of posting pictures/video of me in my bathtub/shower with my pets.

I love the park near my apartment but never used to go much before Tiger dog. Now we go and just read or play or have a snack or bring drinks. And everyone in the world wants to see him. I'm counting on Tiger to pick me up a boy and maybe some new friends too. Friends with cute pets.

Tiny baby puppy sleeping in the car. Again.

This picture cracks me up. Tiger isn't even that cute in it but I think it's hilarious. This is Tova's husband David who saaaays he doesn't like dogs near his face but a picture is worth a thousand words. And some of those words happen to be "You cannot resist this dog and putting him near your face."

This weekend we checked out some new toy stores for puppies and found this awesome heffalump looking thing. When you squeeze it it makes a really obnoxious noise and both it's tail and trunk pop out like noise makers. After I bought it we went to the park where he decided to play with a leaf instead.

A BBQ Picnic!
As I mentioned before Friday was gorgeous here in Portland. So gorgeous in fact that it allowed Craig and I to have a BBQ/picnic at a park near our apartments. On the menu were hot dogs, southwestern seasoned corn on the cob, buttermilk potato salad, watermelon, pickles, and chocolate chip cookies. We used a portable grill I bought recently and I'm in love with. I don't know if it was the sun or the park or puppykins or what but I feel like our little outdoor meal made me so incredibly happy. I want to spend the whole summer in the park having mini BBQs and being outside with my dog.

Afterward Craig and I went over to my place to watch a movie. Tiger hung out in my lap and Javier slept in what is supposed to be the dog bed. Until Craig left and I walked him to the door. Then Tiger decided he needed to sleep in the bed too.

At least one of them seems content with that arrangement.

They Grow Up So Fast
Puppykins goes to daycare during the day now. He loves it and gets so much energy out that he's just a sweet little muffin in the evenings. After he wrestles with Javier for a good half hour that is.
One of my favorite things about his daycare is that they have built in "nanny cams." I can peek in on him while I'm at work and see how he's doing and what he's doing and who he's playing with. Here are some of my spying moments...
He's the tiny one.

The quality isn't great I know but it's the content that matters. And even if it is a little blurry I can definitely tell Little Man is holding his own. I actually have to be careful not to laugh at him while at work because sometimes I check in and all the other dogs are laying down while he bounces around looking for someone to play with.

Well Baby Check Up
I'm totally becoming one of those people who thinks their dog is their child. Okay, not actually but I'm borderline. I even got all excited about our first trip to the vet together for a check up and shots. I don't think it's healthy to be this giddy and proud over a trip that involves sticking a thermometer up an animal's behind.
Tiger got the last of his DHPP shots, thank baby Jesus for that. Now we can finally play outside! And potty train! And go to daycare! He also got Bordetella and some other thing that keeps him from getting sick if he happens to be somewhere where rodents have peed.
I know. Owning a dog just keeps getting grosser and grosser.
He was a total champ though. Except when we were paying. There was a big giant Lassie dog there and they were sniffing around each other and Tiger got excited so he peed. Of course. And the big dog decided to mark his territory too. On top of Tiger's territory. So basically they made a giant puddle of combined urine.
He's a bit lethargic now and super cuddly. I may get him shots every day. Here are some proud parent photos from our morning.
Obviously everyone loved him. How could you not?

Everything needs to be smelled and explored.

Sleepy Babykins

Okay, true story. I went to this sort of upscale grocery store after our vet trip so I could grab something to bring to work for lunch. Tiger was sleeping and it's cold here today so I left him in the car while I ran in (trust me, he was in not even remote danger of dying). I decided to get him a treat since he was such a good brave guy so I picked up some round rawhide chews. After grabbing those I got some salmon and a pasta salad from the deli and a chai from the coffee counter. While I'm waiting for my drink this happened.
Coffee Guy: What are those? Some new kind of bagel?
Me: No, haha, they're dog treats.
Coffee Guy: What are you going to do with them? Play a prank on a co-worker or something?
Me: No...I have a dog.
