Back, Back Again

Oh my goodness it's been a long time.

I've done a ton while taking my break from the internet. I painted pottery, went to the gorge, dyed Easter eggs, made new art, threw a party, got some awesome new kitchen stuff, wore pajamas out and about, watched too much Dexter, and took pictures of my cat. Obviously it's all too much to talk about at once so I'm going to go ahead and give you non-chronological bits and pieces.

I went to the gorge last weekend with Tova and some others for a picnic. I don't really know the real name of the place we went. Everyone just calls it the gorge and it was my first time there which everyone thought was super crazy. I had to hunt down Craig at his favorite coffee shop and kidnap him to come with because he wasn't answering his phone. He was all grumpy about it at first and insisted on doing his homework in the car but I am persuasive so he came with.

We stopped at this view point that was named Women's Forum which totally sounds like Lilith Fair in conference form to me but whatever. This family seriously took a photo at every single section of fence here. The mom kept taking pictures of two of the girls and telling them to "do a little kick" while demonstrating. Possibly my favorite part of the day.

This is the gorge.

Javi and I slept in yesterday. He's pretty much the best ever at snuggly weekend mornings. He's not a super snuggly guy but it's like he gets that on the weekends we're supposed to stay in bed late and be cozy.

This weekend we had a whole two days full of gorgeous sun. Of course today it's gone but I'm starting to really look forward to Spring. I love how in Portland just when you think you're about to go bonkers over the grey skies the weather comes through and gives you some much needed vitamin D.

To all those who won prizes from my giveaway, I mailed out your packages this weekend. I apologize for the late start but you should have your things soon!

Good Morning!

"I'm going to just sit here and stare at you like a creep until you get out of bed and give me food."

I Love the Weekends

My day has included major sleeping in, snuggles with Javi, lunch at Jo Bar with Lana on her lunch break, picking up a lace tank and some very adorable shorts at Free People, a tabloid with the season one Teen Mom girls on the cover, Restaurant Impossible, and a mango smoothie.

Weekends are the best.

Indoor Camping

Javi and I have spent pretty much the entire weekend in bed. We've taken brief breaks to eat cereal and watch Ratatouille but mostly it's been a lot of books, magazines, phone, naps, and snuggling in bed. One of his favorite things is when I make him a tent in our bed. Sometimes it happens by accident when I have one leg crossed over the other under the blankets but other times I will purposely make him a tent by lifting up the blankets. I usually just let him sit under there and tickle my feet but this morning I decided to join him.

Also, I know his eyes are closed in pretty much every picture of him but that's for two reasons. 1. I like taking pictures of him while he's sleeping and 2. because he's so dark unless I use flash he pretty much just looks like a black blob in photos. So he actually can and does see he has just learned to close his eyes when I take his picture.

And yes, he is a little bit dusty. I don't know why he always has fuzz on him. I should probably lint brush him.

This is the Way I Live

Javi and I are laying in bed reading books about treats. I'm pretty sure I like my life. Especially when it's this cozy.

The Stone Soup of Blog Posts

I've been very blog neglectful this past week due to some silly life drama stuff so I'm basically going to throw all this nonsense together and hope it counts as a post.

First, I'm bored of the photo month. I thought it would be fun and it's sort of not so I think I quit that one.

Second, I'm ridiculously excited for two things. First, I'm taking a trip to Seattle with Lana for the sole purpose of shopping. It's just a weekend trip but I can't wait. It will also be the first time I take my cute car anywhere farther than the coast. Last week it was making pretty much the worst noise ever in the entire world. It was like a metallic whine when I braked in reverse. Yeah, only in reverse. I was pretty sure that I was going to need to basically buy a new car or at least replace all the brakes or something but turns out it was a rock. So that was good news. Lana and I are having a road trip music selection party on Wednesday.

We're also staying at a super adorable hotel.

The second part of point number two, the other thing I'm so super excited about is that the internet has brought me together with a real live Portland chef who I've been emailing with and who has offered to cook with me. This is where I just smile like an idiot because I am that ecstatic. She even said I have "skill" so I've been bragging about that one to a few people. I'm also in love with the fact that I can ramble like a crazy person to her about food and restaurants and cooking and cookbooks and she hasn't once rescinded her cooking offer in fear that I am possibly ADD and on speed given I never shut up. So that's nice as well.

The Free People January catalog is out and gorgeous as always. There are a few things I like a lot. Two of which I stopped into the store and bought yesterday.

Sunburst Maxi Dress By Free People in Washed Black (which means navy in real people words)

Convertible Crochet Halter by Free People in Ivory

I also made a fairly amazing shoe purchase but it deserves it's very own post.

Oh, I'm pretty sure that I am going to make my hair a lot more blonde this week. Which I sort of swore off a few years ago but hey, if it's bad I can always go back. I would like this hair color exactly please.

Craig and I are having dinner tonight and I am so looking forward to it. I haven't seen him in probably a whole week. We're going to eat cajun tater tots and burgers (mine will be veggie) and I'm going to tease him at every opportunity.

I leave you with this. Which is what I wake up to.

Cat in the Bath (sort of)

Javier has always sat on the edge on the tub when I take a bath. I fill him up a cup of cold water and he sits next to me and drinks it. Recently he started putting his front two legs onto me when I'm in the bath so he can sniff the water or something. I'm not entirely sure what the point of it was. Then! The other day, he started getting all the way onto my legs and hanging out there. Which is when I decided it was time to take a camera in the bath and post naked video of me on the internet.

Don't get too excited. Except for my amazing cat. You can be super psyched for that.

My most favorite thing this week.

I was watching something on TV that required little focus while sewing last night (more on that later) when I needed to take a break. Because sewing is actually sort of hard. So I decided to check my email. Which is where I found this.

I'm not really sure what CatPaint is but this is why I love this girl.

Meta

I swear, I am not posing him. Also this is a totally new thing. The sitting on my laptop all up in my business thing.

Is this really necessary?

No, it's cool. You can lay there. That's not inconvenient for me at all.

Shrouded in Mystery

I have a friend who has taken to calling Javier, Javi (pronounced hah-vee). At first I was all grumpy about it because I love my cat's name but now it's pretty much all I call him. Plus when he's knocking over all my jewelry in the bathroom at 4am it's a lot easier to yell "Javi!" than inquire "Javier what are you doing?"

Also I'm aware this photo turned out weird but it's one of the few he has been able to keep his eyes open in since I am usually blinding him with flash.

Pickle Butt

The other night I had a friend over and we decided we wanted to watch a movie. Only it was 11pm and we couldn't rent the movie we wanted so we decided to drive over to his place because he owns it.

Well, turns out he doesn't own it. Or he lost it or lent it out but we picked another movie and went back to my place.

It was late and I'm not really sure why but as soon as we walked into my apartment I greeted Javier with "Hi Pickle Butt!"

This sent both of us into fits of giggles and the whole rest of the night, and the next three days, were spent fitting "pickle butt" into any and all conversation.

Just another nickname to add to the always growing list.

Meet Javier

This is my cat. His name is Javier (pronounced ha-VEE-air). The two of us haven't been friends for long, maybe about nine months, and before that I was never a cat person. I always pictured myself with a giant furry dog who would jump up on me and nearly push me over. The thing is, I live in an apartment, and a small one at that, a studio. I don't think having any kind of dog, let alone a giant one, would be fair or practical. Half the time I worry Javier is bored living in my apartment but then he spends ten minutes bolting from the kitchen across my apartment onto the windowsill and back again and I decide he is far too easily entertained to be bored.
