Take a Seat

I currently live in a studio in a newer building in the city, and while in the beginning I loved the coziness of it and not having to furnish a large space and how my cat couldn't hide from me, I think I'm ready for a grown up apartment. Also some more space. And counters.

I've been looking at some older buildings and one of the things I realized is I'm going to have to do some major furniture purchasing. I have no dining room table and as someone who lives to throw a great dinner party, this is at the top of the list of things to be remedied. The problem is I think I know what I want and then I see something the exact opposite of that that I love and then I can't figure out what I want. I have made one decision though, I want mismatched chairs.

This is what I'm currently pretty into:

I think the key to making this work and not looking like it's Thanksgiving dinner and you don't own enough seating is going simple, simple, simple with the table. All the tables in those photos are pretty but fairly minimalistic.

One thing I don't like in the mismatched chairs trend is the same chair in different colors. I'm good with different chairs in the same color (see above) but for some reason the other way around just doesn't work quite as well.

This is what I am not at all into:

What do you say? Yea or Nay? Would you do it?

  1. Lolo - I like option 3. Different chairs brought together by their paint color. Teal, however, is not my hue.
I also like the last one - round table with the same style chairs painted in different colors.

I wish I had the guts to take risks in my apartment... I fear hating the style a year down the read if I go too trendy.

We got this set for xmas last year:

  3. I love the idea of mismatched chairs in the same colour! I'd go hunting through auction sales and yard sales to find each piece and make it an affordable project! Whatever you do, please take pictures! :)

  4. ok, the 2nd and 3rd photo, OBSESSED. It's my dream to own an Eames rocker like the one above, and I do love that last table in the first round of photos. I currently have 2 styles of chair, 2 of each mixed around my table, 2 wood, and 2 metal. It works, and I want to do this when I get a bigger space/actual dining room. The same chair in different colors in a nay. NAY!

  5. As much as I would love to try something like this, i don't think i could pull it off succesfully. In my house it would look like I ran out of chairs for a big dinner.
Although I will say I do love the 2nd one from the bottom.

Our goal for a kitchen/dining room table is the high table that you need bar stool chairs for, get two of those and maybe the cat will stop picking at the chairs and the dog won't be able to steal things off the table :p
